A native Texan born in the panhandle, I’m a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin. I’m now painting full-time after owning a graphic design studio in Houston, where I was a member of the board of directors of the American Institute of Graphic Arts, and occasional visiting lecturer at the University of Houston. Residents of the Texas Hill Country for over a decade, my wife Colleen and I enjoy landscaping & sculpting with local stone. Friends joke that we need a rock intervention, and after all the rock we’ve hauled, they might be right.
As a working artist, I’m always exploring subjects that take me to new heights of inspiration. I’ve created other successful icon-expanding series, but the energy generated for my flag series may be the best yet, courtesy of the open spaces and fresh air of the beautiful Texas Hill Country.
In 2012 I was invited by the owners of the Hill Country Galleria in Bee Cave to be their guest artist and operate a studio gallery there for a couple of years. It was a gas and gave me some insight into the hard work of gallery owners on behalf of their artists.
The sound of steel and wood is sometimes in the air around the studio. Here’s a quick 1 minute clip of a recent night out with my trusty 11-string, courtesy of my wife, Colleen. Most of the time my playing sounds like a gravel truck.
